The Shape of Shelter: New Works by Stephanie Dennis

The Shape of Shelter: New Works by Stephanie Dennis opens Friday, March 31st with a reception from 7 - 9 pm.

I think our memories of place keep us rooted in our lives. Recalling places is an act of imagination in which we stitch together fleeting impressions and condense sense memories into a new experience that is tethered to our past. This bridge from past to present is a kind of psychic shelter.

My memories of place are bound to the landscape, and in my work, I am exploring ways to locate and recreate places that are inspired by natural forms and phenomenons like land masses, coast lines, flocks, currents, clouds, and weather. I am interested in how a formal process distills an internal place into an object. A place becomes a thing.
